Apocalypse purifies! Apocalypse lights the city with flames! Apocalypse is scary!

Earthquakes, droughts, fires, riots! Have you ever seen a city of such apocalyptic impermanence?

“Hollywood Apocalypse” is a competitive art exhibit at the Black Maria Gallery, located in Atwater, California, and curated by Ray Zone.

I highly recommend it. The exhibit appeals to the Appocalyptos out there, be it Mel Gibson, punkers, or religious zealots.

Given an excerpt from the classic Hollywood novel, The Day of the Locust (1939), the artists interpreted a description of a painting by the novel's hero called “The Burning of Los Angeles”.

Ten-percent of the proceeds from the exhibition go to the Writers Guild Foundation’s Industry Support Fund.

Skylight Books, the indie bookstore on Vermont Avenue in Los Feliz, co-sponsored the event and is selling various L.A. literature.

The exhibit runs until April 19. The paintings range in price from $300-$1500.
