Do I Want Redistribution of Wealth?
Recently I was asked, Do I want redistribution of wealth?
The answer is, Absolutely.
When you have in the U.S. the top 1 or 2% of the population owning 40% or 50% of the wealth, we need redistribution of wealth.
This maldistribution of wealth is what causes recessions and depressions like the present depression that we are currently in.
We don't have to have everybody earning or accumulating the same amount of money, but we should have more equality.
This is not because I'm a bleeding heart liberal but because this is the only way to have a healthy economy that is going to benefit the vast majority of people.

Many rich people don't earn anything.
Many of them just collect interest from bonds and bank accounts or dividends from stocks or money from capital gains that they only pay a 15% tax on and, or as my friend said, inherited huge amounts of wealth.
The very rich are like blood sucking leaches living off people's labor. Many rich people are plutocrats who are buying off politicins who do their dirty work making laws that unfairly benefit certain corporations and making their owners a lot of money.

The very rich should be paying 60% in Federal Income Taxes. They should be paying 70%, 80%, 90% like they were paying under the administrations of Eisenhower, Kennedy and Carter.
Why should we be dependent on the rich like beggers with their charity? The wealth that has been created in our industrial society was created by society as a whole. We should share it more equitably.

Is it Social Security, Medicare, aid to Higher Education, laws against air polution, laws against water polution, the Food and Drug Administration, laws against banking fraud, the Securities and Exchange Commision?
How is the the average person supposed to protect him or herself against a multibillion dollar corporation with their legions of high powered lawyers?
The average person has to band together with other average people and work through democratic government to contest the sometimes monster corporations that our government has created. The state governments are the entities that give birth to corporations.
